Thanks Jaykay, it's the housing, rental costs that concern me, are you renting, mortgaged or own?? Please do not answer if this is too personal. My quick look says we would be up for 600-800 per month for housing.
Try West Midlands and your figure would be half that.

I am coming "home". Have lived in UK for 10 years now, but I still consider Oz home, having lived there for 20 years prior to that. And as all of my immediate family live there, it will be nice coming home to the "fold".

I have weighed up the pros and cons of staying in the UK or returning home to Oz and Oz wins hands down.

Yes it does sound like we have a nice life, but we are now in the position where we have to consider our 4 year old daughter. We have decided that we want her educated in Oz and to be brought up in a better environment than what we see here.

We are also in the position where our house is now too small for us and to move to a larger house we would have to take out a much larger mortgage just to get an extra bedroom and a larger garden, as we currently live in a back to back house so no back garden. So by selling our house here and buying one in Oz, we can probably buy an average size house, say 20 squares, without a mortgage, or take out a small mortgage if we want to buy a much larger house, say 28-30 squares.

Don't get me wrong, I have loved living in the UK. I've met the man of my dreams, have found some fantastic friends who I know will keep in touch for the rest of my life. I own a BMW (okay it's a 13 year old 320i) have had fantastic holidays to Europe, especially the South of France and have a great wardrobe of clothes.

BUT....I miss Australia so much. I miss the large roads, the large cars, the friendly people who don't look down at you if you're not wearing the right clothes or talk properly, I miss being able to just pack up a picnic and go for a drive knowing that there'll be somewhere nice to stop that has facilities to cook, I miss the uncrowded beaches, and I miss air conditioning wherever you go. I miss the casualness of being able to stop at a friend's house without having to call first to see if it's okay to drop over.
And I really miss my family. Even though I wasn't that close to them when I left 10 years ago, my brothers and sisters have all grown up now and got married, had family of their own and when I went home in February this year, they all seemed so much closer to each other, and I've missed out on all of that too. And i miss Cherry Ripes so much!!

So I'm going home to see if I can fit back into Ozzie life, and enjoy all things back home.

Regards
