Went to Coles for the first time in about a year today.
Very pleasantly surprised. Trolleys that work. Bright lighting, well stocked shelves, lots of tills open and best of all, offers that are actually decent and not derisory.
It seems that Ian McLeod is doing really good things.
And to save replying later, I am an ardent consumerist, and have no sympathy for the protectionist lobby that keep Australian farming produce prices high.

The new Coles at Claremont is markedly different from any other Coles I've seen in WA, worth a look, as is the Farmer Jack's almost next door.

I have started doing more shopping in Coles over the last six months or so.Shelves are stocked, plenty of special offers and very clean. The Claremont one is very nice and upmarket. The ones near me are nice but not as nice.I rarely go to Woolies.

That sounds like positive news!
A recent lurker to this forum, I am in the process of talking to Coles about career opportunities delivering these refurbishments. I understand there are very big plans indeed over the next few years to improve the brand across its various formats.

Coles in Ellebrook is hands down the best supermarket i've ever been in, reminds me very much of Sainsburys only better
Never thought I would say that about an Aussie supermarket...

Coles gave over its Kawana store a make over.
Nothing really changed, just a few new displays for the veggies, not the layout, not the floor coverings anything really except the LIGHTING.
Its like that lighting you get in make up departments
everthing looks bright fresh almost illuminated. Same store but huge consumer effect.
Cant say the range changed any, even in the biggest coles its nowt like going in a morrisons or asda if you want product choice.

Just got an email from Coles urging me to "Shop where a masterchef shops", with a grinning cut out of Curtis Stone.
Odd then that my weekly return ticket to LA wasnt attached.

Cause I thought that like any aussie who made two bob or got 'discovered' he bogged off to America to live.

and we made lots of money "removing the orb"
imagine - all those coles stores wanting to lose the circle in front of their name but too tight to go and pay to do it properly and have new logos.
You will see the varying results - for a big brand, it looks complete rubbish

Our Coles in Armidale NSW is currently undergoing major refurbishment. New shelving, layout etc. Even has a Curry Pot which seems to have pre made curries to buy. It will also have a new seafood section. Apparently they are standardising the layout of all stores so that you can go to Coles anywhere and know which aisle to go down. Anyway, at the moment it is causing great confusion as people can't find anything but looks like it will be worth it in the end.
