Hello,
My husband Simon and Myself (Anna) and 5 yr old son are moving to Perth Feb 2005!
Wondering if anybody else is going out too? We bought a property in Kallaroo last month, and hope to send our son to Whitfords Catholic Primary in Craigie. Does anybody know about the schools reputation?
Currently live in west london but both originally Kiwis, so fortunately we don't have the horrendous immigration hassles with dual nationality!
Would appreciate any advice. How does one go about giving birth out there?

Perth in Feb - us too !!!!
Have to have newbies meet.
We are ( we think) heading for Joondalup area.
Would like to be close to beach but can't afford Iluka and don't like Butler
Maybe Currambine ??
Not sure , going to rent first whilst we sort out jobs. Have a 10yr old boy though and need to get him settled. Apparently currambine school has a waiting list.
Keep in touch guys
Sue

We (Dave - me, Helen - the wife, and Nathan - stepson) are moving to Perth in Jan (15th). We bought a house in Currambine in April and we really liked the area - smack bang between Iluka and Joondalup - best of both worlds - close to shops at Joondalup, train station at Currambine and beach less than 2Ks away at Burns beach
We are up for a meet up when we get out there.

Hi Anna,
We (me, Kate, hubby Ed, kids Finlay and Erin) are hopefully arriving in March 2005. No firm plans as to where we are going to live. Ed's company is going to put us up for the first while so we can find our feet. We will be renting first and looking for kindergarten for Fin. It seems most people tend towards the north of Perth, but I'm also looking at the Hills. Rellies are in Karrinyup.
We've spent tonight drawing a huge chart to pin on the wall of what's got to be done and by when (sad, huh!
see you on here again no doubt!

See http://www.nz-oz.gov.au for information.
So if you see your home in Australia, then you do need to go through the immigration hoops if at all possible. The good news is that as NZ citizens you can apply for permanent residence onshore after arriving - either through general skilled (points tested) or employer nomination, but you still need to meet the normal requirements.
Are you British citizens yourselves? If no, you should consider naturalisation before leaving the UK.
Regarding your son, if he's UK born he will be British as long as you were granted indefinite leave to remain (ILR) before he was born. Or if one of you is a British citizen, of course.
If you got ILR *after* he was born then he's not automatically British but can be registered as a British citizen provided application is made before he is 18 (although it will get complicated if you don't do this before losing your UK ILR, which you will after leaving the UK). If this applies, you should sort it out for him as soon as possible even if you decide not to apply for British citizenship yourselves.

How old are the kids?
Your very lucky hubby's company will get you started. We have all the employment worries to go through when we get there. Simon has to stay in the UK until March ,so Matthew and I will be flying solo!
We can all hook up, when you arrive!

We we're suprised at property prices to0. Fortunately we got a cheap crap property in a good area that we'll rebuild on once we're established.
We loved Joondalup, but wanted to be as close to beach as money would permit!
Look forward to meeting up!
Anna
