Totally agree with you can't wait to get out of this Country, trying to sell our house at the moment awaiting our visas, the sooner we get out of here the better.

I thought they were a good idea -

All it means is you get one survey doine and one landsearch which is info that is available to prospective buyers - Unlike opur current system where I as a buyer can pay hundreds for these services and then get gazumped and be left out of pocket - and then the new purchaser also has to buy surveys etc - The only person who would stand to lose are people in our situation who are planning to sell but not buy in the UK.

I really think they are a good idea. If you want to sell, you happily decorate and make it look good why not get most of the paperwork done as well If it stops people dropping out or gazumping then it must be a good thing.

The easiest thing would be to bring in anti gazumping laws like in scotland and do away with all the other proposals. If the buyer is still likely to have their own survey done whats the point in the seller paying for a meaninglass piece of paper. As for all the local searches and land registry, if the solicitors took their fingers from up thier a**se that would speed the whole process up. How many times have house sales been held up because of solicitors for the buyers or sellers messing around.

I was under the impression that you would have to get a whole lot more done than just a basic survey. Initial suggestions were that you would need separate surveys for individual items such as plumbing, electrics, structural integrity, damp proofing etc.

That was why I decided to sell before I leave for oz - I don't even want to think about the hastle of trying to arrange that sort of thing from the other side of the world...
