Excellent suggestion. We built on a steel frame and it was fantastic - the entire thing goes together like meccano. The only issue you will find is that many trades don't understand steel frame. For instance the plaster hangers said once they had finished our job they didn't want to hang a steel frame again!

If you are going steel frame make it Bluescope Lysaght. There are other systems on the market, but the chap who erected our frame for us has been putting up steel framed houses of all flavours for over 20 years and he reckoned it was the only good system.

We know absolutely nothing about how to do this at the moment, so wondered if there's any tips?

Is it normally more expensive to buy land and then build, rather than buy a 'second hand' house, as my hubby calls it ?

And is it as simple as finding a block of land for sale (ie on realestate.com.au) that seems about the right size, and buying it, then finding a house builder? Is there anything to consider about buying a block? We'd be buying in inner-ish Brisbane, definitely not in one of those new developments with land/house packages.

Thanks in advance for any tips!
Hey Emma

How are you? We built last year so if you've got any questions just PM me!
