We are going to send our TRA this week. My brother phoned and has offered to let us stay for a 2 week rekkie in Perth with him to help us decide whether to live there or not. We don't know if we should or whether to take the bull by the horns and just go, give it a few years if was the wrong decission go back to the UK. Has anyone else just moved without going for a rekkie first?

Hi propercornish,
I think there are lots of people that go without a rekkie, but i would say that if you have the opportunity to and can afford it etc it would be a good idea to go and get a feel for the place first.
Good luck!

I'm a bit undecided about the argument of having a rekkie or not. On the one hand you can see what you are going to but a holiday is nothing like living and working in a place. We enjoyed our first few months there - we were out and about sightseeing, we weren't working - just generally settling in and doing all the touristy things. Three months in and we thought that we could never live anywhere else. Twelve months after we arrived we were back in the UK.
Living and working there and being away from familiar people/places is a million miles away from visiting and knowing that you are going home after a couple of weeks. Even people who have spent 12 months backpacking have gone back "permanently" only to come back home again. Australia is a lovely country but so different to what we are used to in so many ways. Some people adapt, some don't.
I suppose though that if you can afford it, a rekkie would at least familiarise you with the place if nothing else.
Good luck

Hi
We are off in 4 weeks time to Perth and no we havnt been before.
I dont dislike the UK at all but i do enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that Oz has to offer....I look at it like this.....doesnt matter where you live you still have to work hard, do the housework, pay bills, kids have to go school etc, etc,
so why not do it all at least in the sunshine....
this is only my opinion and hopefully it will work for us.......
Will let you know in time whether we have made the rite decision to go without first visiting.....
