A nation of Alcos?

A nation of Alcos?
I just made a quick trip to our local bottle shop, liquorworx. It has a carpark for about 50 cars, and there is normally 2 or 3 cars parked there. Today the carpark was FULL. It took me 5 minutes to get a space.
When I went in, all 6 tills were open, and there were queues back to the fridges. I just wanted a box of beer, so I grabbed it from the walk in fridge, and joined the queues. Everyone in front of me had trolleys full of wine beer spirits. As I got nearer the tills I could here the costs people were paying. $200, $300, one guy almost hit $400 for his trolley heaped up with spirits and champagne. I felt really stupid standing there with my $24.99 box of beer.
Is there a nuclear war coming that I don't know about, or is it just because the bottle shops are shut for 1 day tomorrow?
Maybe I've just never went there at peak times before, but it was amazing the amount of alcohol people were stocking up on. They can't ALL be having a Barbi this weekend
And another thing, this was at 3:30pm, do these people not have jobs
Cheers,
Happy Easter,
JTL

Even the casino is shut here tomorrow!!
Re " A nation of alco's?"
Well, I ask you? A world of alco's???
Well, the western world then...
I've heard the germans are big drinkers, the british are big drinkers, the aussies are... THe Dutch youth certainly is, I know that.
etc etc etc.
My theory for why there's more bottleshops here than in Holland(and probably england?) is that here, rather than going to a pub or club(ok, that too, but less), people have more parties at home, or bbq's in parks etc.

Oh by the way, I don't know if the bottle shops are shut tomorrow, I'm only guessing from the manic look in peoples eyes at the bottle shop.

If Oz is the fourth biggest drinking nation, (I assume thats per person), who do you think are the top three?
I'd guess:
Ireland
Germany
UK
though france could slip in there somewhere with all their wine drinking.

Beleive it or not, I think Iceland tops the list !
Could be wrong though, They do some very weird things with curdled milk and alcohol there, Imagine that alongside your fermented herrings, xrist knows what bjorks farts smell like.
Hmmm this may be an interesting evening, Ive got a thread looming in my brain, and the thought is not going to diminish until I post it (dammit), despite the inevitable bad consequences "aussie women v english women" 4 more beers should make me disinhibited enough. (i wonder if one can get Karma taken away lol)

As for it being 3.30pm; they probably took off from work early. Usually thats more noticeable on friday arvos. some are able to work later at other times to ensure they can do this, often to beat the peak traffic if they are heading out of the city for a long weekend.
