Talking On my way to Perth - what to do when I get there?

After two months of discsussions with my potential Australian employer, we have agreed that it now makes sense to eet face to face so we have set up a meeting in Perth (at my expense!). So next week I will be making a "splash and dash" visit to Perth.

Arrive midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to look around and then meet my potential employer on Monday and back hom on the 01:00 am flight on Tuesday morning.......phew. :scared:

Planning to hire a car on Saturday and Sunday so question is what should I go an see? Planning to drive south on Saturday and north on Sunday to get a feel for the layout, suburbs etc.

Where are the nice place to eat in the centre of town?

Any tips welcome.

If you have time! Definitly visit Fremantle, Friday, Saturday and Sunday they have Markets which are great. Little Creatures on the Harbour in Fremantle is a great bar/restaurant.http://www.littlecreatures.com.au/barfood/.

Northbridge (immediately north of the city centre) is the place for wining&dining and nightclubbing. Many require reservations. Always new reastaurants popping up (and others closing).

Il Padrino does good woodfired pizzas. Royal India does tandori style indian fare. Both are located in William st. There is a chinese restaurant in northbridge(forget the name tho) that does great yum cha on sun mornings.

You will also get a good lunch at the blue duck at cottesloe or the indiana tearooms for lunch or dinner(right on the beach at cottesloe). Take a drive thru nedlands and mosman park(too expensive for most of us to live in but a nice calm place for a drive (very green and leafy).
Kings park is a nice spot and has bbq facilites.

What to see? fremantle[check out the markets, maritime museum and shopping and cafe area and maybe have a seafood lunch down on the wharf at cicerellos or that. Also there is an art gallery next to perth railway station. Play a game of golf at burswood or visit the casino there, maybe have a meal and a few ales at the irish bar there] (sat), drive out to swan valley and check out the wineries. Id check the southern suburbs out on sunday incase you want to do some shopping at rockingham. Dont forget to drive a bit further south to mandurah.

Why not check out the tourist info centre? They are listed in the perth phonebook, and any half decent hotel or backpackers can supply you with brochures and info
Good luck with your job and enjoy your trip

Places to stay that are very central (a stone throw from the malls litterally) so you can have a drink and stumble back to hotel without having to worry about driving. None are very cheap but you can get good deals on the internet.

http://www.accorhotels.com.au/hotdea...rth&brand=Ibis

Cheap car hire

www.asiahirecarhire.com contact Suix or Eddie on +61 3 9372 1166 call early in the day Uk time as they are on the East coast, my mum hired a car through them and I have aswell and they are a lot cheaper than most others, They are an agent and you usually pick the car up from Europcar at the airport. I have just hired a focus 3 days with 3 drivers for $110 with a low excess

another cheap car hire is http://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au/default.htm they are very popular with the backpackers we usually have 4 or 4 of them in opur carpark eachnight and they have a sticker on the side saying "No Birds" which I am sure everybloke will love. the cars from these guys are corollas.

Be carefull as many car hire companies hire the Hyundia Getz as the cheapest car and it really is small (so small my hubby physicaly cant drive it he is 6"4").

Anyway have fun we are down Monday night for 2 nights so too late to meet up for a drink.

Thanks for the tips so far.

I have already booked into the Parmelia Hilton - very cheap as I booked it with my Hiton Hotel points (I knew all those business trips would come in handy).

I should have said if anyone would like to meet for a drink that would be great

Obviously check out Perth centre..... plenty of good food halls etc there.

Fremantle.

Mandurah (if you have time to take a boat trip on the inlet... otherwise, it`s just a nice town with not much shopping).

Cottesloe Beach.

Scarborough Beach.

Burswood Casino if you`re into gambling etc.

Northbridge for lot`s of restaurants and night-life.

Subiaco is nice with some great restaurants (The Witch`s Cauldron does excellent garlic prawns.... real prawns btw, not the tiddly little prawns in Tesco ). There`s also Subiaco markets there but I`d say Fremantle (Freo) is your best bet with just a couple of days.
