My Mum needs to talk!
Leaving for Perth in less than a month. AHHHHHH!!! And my Mum is worried our tri-weekly chats are going to end. I have bought her a phone card from the post office- which seems the cheapest way to phone that I have discovered, but she expressed an interest in talking via chat rooms. Can any one suggest a good one that is simple to use as my Mum can be a little tech-phobic.

u can cam on that too and it will give her a hotmail address
so you can email her whenever

Do you mean your mum wants to talk to other people or just to you? If it's just to you just use yahoo or windows messenger and you can chat to each other on line.
Also there are various companies in the UK who offer discounted calls to Australia, I can't remember exact rates but they are normally cheaper than BT. You just dial a number before you make the call, I think we're using 1877 at the moment for Oz, and have used 1363 in the past. You need to register first and then they send you a separate bill. Do a search in google and I'm sure you'll find it.

Hi, I've been giving my dad lessons on my computer, we're leaving them ours when we go to Perth in September. Messenger is one of the easiest I think, even if you just show her how to get switched on and signed in, at least she can chat to you then. My husbands parents are a different matter - we've no chance he can't even set the timer on his video so we'll be sticking to the phone with them! Take care, Jane.

We use MSN messenger both for typing chats, microphone chats and full webcam. However both ends on braodband, so will have to review when we are more than the few yards apart we are currently....

camming is fine from Scotland to Australia via msn messenger,

I have the following "rellies" in Aus: Mum, Dad, 4 brothers, 3 sister in laws, 3 neices, 4 nephews. I mainly ring my Mum on Onetel the last bill I had from them for a two hour call was for £3.00 - You have to register with them, they are on the net. You can also save on calls in UK long distance. Hope this is of help.
