My first week in Melbourne!
Well, at last we arrived ! thanks to Sass's help and her complete Melbourne tour we're not so alone.
Briefly, looking for a house sounds a really tough task to do, if you dont have a car you should collect the key from the office and check a house far from that, come back in 1 hour (sharp!) and return the key! Moreover, when applying for any house to rent you must fill out relevant sections to determine your current employment and if you're looking for a job you will have a remote chance to find an owner with a suitable case to lease the house to a person who's still looking for, this loop completes when for a job you need a permanent address, homephone, TFN(needs address) and previous aussie work experience. May be the best tip discovered in these days is the effectiveness of various certifications in getting IT jobs (Microsoft-Citrix and Cisco), (though I am still looking for! but they helped me much more than anytime. The climate does not want to follow any rule! * Still interesting in meeting more friends over here and share more information. Good luck, |

(so are 1 week more experinced than you in Melbourne!!) So here's our story if it helps anyone: Checked into a hotel in the CBD...and the rush was onto find a rental asap. We rested for the 1st day as it was 37 degrees and blowing a gale!!!!! On day 2 we took a train to a Honda dealer and bought a new Honda Jazz. As the car wasn't in the showroom, they've given us a loan Honda CRV for a few weeks FOC:) . As we then had transport, we could start looking for accomodation. We put in mulitiple applications with different agents, and were accepted for all...even for those with multiple application pending. TIP: The deciding factor must that we offered the full 12 months rent in advance. It wasn't accepted (and don't think agents are allowed to take it), but it shows that you have some financial clout, which then puts you at the top of the pile:D Getting net access is crucial for job searching etc. However, what I can say is that the librairies here are numerous and really useful for net access. Also, when buying stuff...make sure you arrange that you new bank account card has an increased limit than the set $1000. FoxHell & Hellstra are mucking us around with our cable tv connection. We don't really mind, and some of you may think us weird, but we really like the standard channels here....lots of films :) . ..and everyone is so damn helpful here in Melbourne!!!!!! Tomorrow we're off to the mountains....life is good here....so far:D |
