My Farewell Speech!!!!!
Well the time is nearly here……we’re off in 6 days 13 hours (when I press submit!)…..
I still remember the day we arrived in Australia. I had been trying to convince hubby to go to Oz for years, but he always said that we would have to take at least 2 months off work, and I knew this was never going to happen.
So I saved hard and booked the trip secretly for his 40th birthday, (for 3 weeks not 8!) He couldn’t get out of it now. And those were the most amazing 3 weeks we’ve ever known. We fell in love with Australia from day 1 , and six visits and nearly 4 years later, we are still in love with Australia.
It took us two and a half years to get the visa sorted. More to do with bad choice of agent, than any real problems. And finally December 2004 our visas were granted.
We bought our lovely Brisbane queenslander in May this year, and move in on 9th September. I hope the house is still standing!!
We found British Expats far too late in the process. I think we would have saved a fortune had we known about it at the start of our visa application, rather than part way through the process. But since its discovery I think I must have signed on at least once a day, and more recently, every 5 minutes!
Thanks to all you lovely posters and all the help and knowledge I’ve gained as a result– I know I’m not the most prolific poster myself, but I do read virtually everything on the Oz forum, and I’ve tried to help where I can.
I’ll continue to post once we’re settled, and up and running on the Internet, though it sounds as though getting sorted is a bit of a prolonged nightmare. Oh well….hopefully it won’t be too long before my fingers start tapping and who knows – I might even become as helpful as ABC Diamond (yeah right!). Only need about another 7,900 posts to get me into that league.
Although I’m still here for a few more days, I’m going to be really really busy I’m sure, so I wanted to leave plenty of time to say good-bye.
Continued best wishes to all those who’ve already made it, those who are at the beginning of the journey, and those who are at the halfway point - going through all the stresses and strains that we went through (especially that house selling lark – that was a killer!)
At least on BE there’s always someone to share your highs and lows with, no matter what time of day it is.
See you on the other side…….last one over turn the lights out…..tee hee!!
