Default My beloved TV What is the truth!!

Hi All
We have seen other forums about taking TV,S To Australia.

We understand that TV,S out in OZ work on VHF. Ours dont.

Some people say you can take TV,s but need to run them through a video recorder for them to work.

Some people have said you can get them modified.

We have 2 TV,s new models that we would like to get modified.

Has any body had this done in OZ.
How much did it cost.
Has it worked properly after the mod.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

A simple PAL I to PAL B conversion. ('B' is the sound carrier system) Costs about $60-$80 but you have to look around for this price as Australian engineers know most Brits 'need' their TV and will try to charge higher. Also don't bother with using the video as a tuner, this means that you won't be able to watch one channel while you record another. Get the tuner converted at the same time. UK uses channels 21-68, Aus uses channels 0-11.

This has been discussed a few times. Try a search or look at the thread above.

Default DVDs too?

Can I also ask about DVDs? I've been looking at some DVDs on ebay that I'd like to buy but they work in Region 2 which includes Europe, Japan and South Africa but doesn't include Australia.

I'm told that they will play in a multi region DVD player as long as the TV and DVD player are PAL compatible.

This is all gobbledegook to me; can anyone advise whether DVDs that work in Region 2 will play in Australia?

Will I have to buy a player with a particular spec? (current DVD player belongs to my daughter, I may or may not be able to do a deal to buy it from here to take with me - would this be a good idea?)

Thanks for any help/advice.

Elaine

A DVD player that you buy over here will not work in Aus......BUT......you can 'hack' into it by a few simple remote control commands to change it to a 'multi region player'. The list of hacks can be found at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php

Good Luck.

Steve.

I still think it's worth just using an Aus VCR or Sat box. Chances are you won't want to record anything anyway! You need to use the scart socket to connect otherwise you'll lose the sound.

But that wastes your scart socket and you can't plug in your DVD, games consol or whatever. Personally, getting the lot converted for $80 is a lot cheaper than buying a new video when you've already got one. Plus the fact that if you buy an Aus video recorder, you won't be able to watch any videos that you take with you.

Getting the lot converted wins hands down. Why mess about with extra videos and leads?

WRONG Pre recorded videos will play on a British or Ozzie recorder without problems. Dosn't matter if they were recorded on a Brit or Ozzie recorder, so bring all your fav videos with you.

We brought a TV & video & yes we just run the tv through our aussie video &/or cable box. Difference being I guess is that we already had an aussie tv & video as well & just changed them around & we very rarely tape anything off tv anyway (most of it is crud ). Wasn't perfect, but it worked for us. If you can get it converted it might be worth it, but then again, unless its a fabulous big screen plasma tv etc, it might be just as cheap to buy a new one here!

Oh & Paul is correct, videos will still play here regardless of whether they were taped in the UK .
