Originally posted by crabtree Are you talking about City prices paul? For the rural areas of Western Australia , propery prices do not appear to have increased much if at all over the last 12 months. If you are going from the UK the rise in house prices here more than compensate for the rises in Australia. Tony C Here in Brisbane, houses within a 30 minute commute of the CBD have risen around 30% in the last 12 months, but if you wanted to look at a similar house in, say Bundaberg, you`d probably find the rise was around 5-10% (I`m guessing here, and haven`t got the time nor inclination to look it up at the moment). One thing I don`t understand is that on this thread, footy Chick, who lives in Sussex says "our property is diving", yet Slater, also in Sussex, says "just accepted an offer 20% more than last year"... could this also be because one lives, say in Brighton and the other in the middle of nowhere??? I`m interested.... |

To be fair, you still get a lot more house for your money in OZ. Houses tend to be bigger than the Uk, so if that is what matters its still going to seem reasonable for the price. Ive been there done that with the big house thing, means nothing to me, but its very impressive for many new arrivals, despite recent price rises.

Originally posted by paulf I remember a post about a month ago asking "will property price rises change your mind about moving" Well, having just done a search on realestate.com.au I see prices have jump a massive amount in that short time frame. A house costing $350.000 just about 12 months ago is now in the region of $500.000. So with property putting on fat rises so quickly and indeed surely now outside some peoples original plans will it affect your decision or not?. You should be more concerned about what your new country will offer in employment ,  :D |
You should be more concerned about what your new country will offer in employment , But having said that there is such a shortage of gasfitters here at present that the money is too good to give up for awhile at least. |
Originally posted by paulf It seems there is work for Plumbers in OZ at present with the housing boom, but even when thats over there will always be maintenance work for plumbers. But having said that there is such a shortage of gasfitters here at present that the money is too good to give up for awhile at least. You should do okay here but the better moneys self employed and you need to have contacts for that.   |
Ain't it the way, I have finaly got one of those jobs the press seem to think all plumbers have, (plumbers know the score)
with the silly money and I can't give it up no matter how good Oz is. What a dilema, the missus is,nt talking to me now because I have put the move on hold, but thats just one of the good points:p Ah well It's a hard knock life. |
Ain't it the way, I have finaly got one of those jobs the press seem to think all plumbers have, (plumbers know the score) the more you earn here the easier life will be in Oz. Good luck. |

I live 15 miles to the west of Brighton near Worthing. We are catching up with Brighton prices cause it's nicer here. You don't have to watch your back!!! Slater |

Ive been there done that with the big house thing, means nothing to me, but its very impressive for many new arrivals, despite recent price rises. It's not even about house size. I just want to sit on a chair in my back yard for *****s sake. This is about the only material thing I want. Along with a lounge room not too poky. And a capable vehicle. In my case I would kill to have the fairly large semi-detached house in a nice London suburb - but it will never be - why I have a chuckle at the people on this site in the UK who have this and a lot more...but are still not happy..(!) my parents never owned a car, we never even got a washing machine until I was 22. but its not all gloom and doom - as a result I grew up a fairly happy go lucky bloke who has achieved a hell of a lot and can see past a lot of UK lifestyle and through it as well. money CAN'T buy somethings. I look at 99 pc of the UK population and the highlight of their week seems to be to get smashed. I know I know<cue monty python sketches> I've said it before - I would rather be skint in Aus than skint in the UK. QED. Some of my girlfriends's mates lived in rented houses in Western Sydney and their furniture was all off the skip - or looked it. Yet these were graduates etc. They didn't care - they were just good people. UK people seem obsessed with wall to wall carpets, (wood flooring now), wallpaper with that naff strip half-way up...jesus..i hate it!! I know Dotty talks about snobby housing estates but to me that seems so bloody Gold/sunshine coast. could be wrong..could be wrong see youse later, badgers :D |
