Welcome

Don't forget the immigration site on here. Who needs to pay someone when there's a wealth of talent in there (and here).

Hi there. My partner and I have finally decided to take the plunge and emigrate to Australia. We are at the very beginning of the journey to get there and we have been approached by a company called emmigration experts who say they will help us through all the steps to get us to Oz - has anyone heard of them/ used them?? If so, were they any good, are they above board?? If not, can anyone recommend anybody?? Sorry - loads of questions but feeling quite nervous at mo as its such a big decision and we want to get it right as we also have three children to consider in all of this so need this to be an absolutely positive experience for them. Any help would be massively appreciated!!!

hi hannah, we have just taken the plunge (exciting) and we have gone with a company called grist international. We have friends who have succesfully used them and moved over two weeks ago to perth. The person you deal with is Jo Grist, she emigrated years ago and never got the help she wanted so decided to set up her own company and apparently has 100% pass rate. So far she has been grate with all the questions we keep emailing her, im sure she doesnt sleep, we always get a quick reply even tho they are 10 hrs ahead. Its costing us just under £1000 and you pay half first to get started. We are also looking to move to melbourne and are constantly looking at the houses on realestate.com.au and have seen some wonderfull houses in the east also, we are hoping to go on a reccie in feb, cant wait, but not looking forward to flight with an 8yr old and a nearly 2yr old who cant sit still for 5mins! If you are concerned about jobs and what your hubby will be paid have alook on seek.com it might give u an idea, but be propared for wages to be lower, there not as good as here. We met up with others from this great website on sunday, and it was realy great, everyone has a different experience and stories to tell, have a look if there are any meets in your area, try and go, they are a great help and you can make some new friends.
I hope me gabbling on a bit has helped a little, keep us posted with what happens, good luck:thumbsup:

cool!! thanks for that advice - i agree totally - now i have had time to think about what they are actually offering, its true, its work we can do ourselves. Have been in touch with go matilda and they have been really helpful as our application is maybe not gonna be as straightforward as we first thought. we are getting the wobbles a bit as we have seen posts on here that are really negative about the financial side of things. My partner was by trade a mechanic (he now works for honda uk in technical support so is off the spanners - hence y our application is getting complicated!!) and we don't know what sort of wage he could expect so thats becoming a major worry as he doesn't want to take a drop in money - aaarrrgh so much to think about!!!

sorry went off on a bit of a rant but thanks for that advice - wow - ur all so helpful!!!!

Is your hubby looking to do the same thing here? We have dealings with Robert Lane Honda over in the East because they are the only place who service NSXs and they all seem to be a great mob there :)

Hi we used Mark Webster at Acacia, He was fantastic, our moved proved tricky but he was always quick to reply and stepped us through all the way. We've now been here 2 years and actually went for our citizen interviews today, wouldn't be here without him. There are some really good agents out there so do a search I think ours was really reasonable and don't begrudge any of it.

Wow - thanks for all that info vanessa - def food for thought!! Everyone is so helpful, giving hints and tips - real invaluable stuff. The wages are really worrying my partner - he worked as a mechanic for 10 years and finally got a step up the ladder when honda uk approached him - he's just worried he's gonna have to backstep so his ideal solution would be to try and find a job with Honda HQ in Melbourne.

Teliko 21 - really excited to hear someone talking of honda - i think to be honest my partner will really consider scrapping the idea of moving if he can't stay with honda - he's been with them since he left school and is very loyal - he's really into the whole honda philosophy so this is gonna be a real sticking point. To be honest i don't think we could afford to move if he was to work on the spanners as we have three kids so he would need to find something as close to the position he holds at the moment. I have said he might have to go back on workshop floor for a while but he is worried if he steps away from his position now he may never get there again - soooo stressful!!!!

thanks to both of you for your input - much appreciated:)

Why dont' you try emailing Honda HQ to see what the score is about transfering your OH role over to there, may even be able to get ona sponsored visa through Honda which would spead up the process by a long way if that is what you are wanting too. Just a thought :)

Yeah - re: transferring his role to honda australia was something i suggested to him but we weren't sure of the protocol really, how it would go down with honda uk, etc. Thanks for that Vicky:)

Hi

Big blue chip companies are normally well versed it moving employees and will have systems in place. If they value your OH as an employee they should do their best to help.

We live in a country where employees are well protected so you should not fear asking. Ask HR for all the relevant procedures so you know what the way forward is. I am sure they have done it all before!

Re: Much help needed - newbies!!!

Hello and welcome

We used Sue at Ian Harrop & Associates. We paid 1500 for their services and they were really good. We also had the TRA, PCC, Meds and application to pay for on top. Sue was really honest and took us on straight away. We applied in March 2006 and got visas in Oct 2006 (136 MODL not in demand).

We looked at Four Corners in Manchester and they quoted 4000 and told us we would have to wait for another 6 months before applying.

Hope this helps and good luck.
