Default Moving teenagers to Melbourne from Scotland - school advice!

Hi
We're looking to make the move after the summer term ends 2012. I have one child who will be finishing Standards Grades (finishing 4th year, going into 5th) and one who will be starting (finishing 2nd year, going into 3rd).

Anyone out there had similar experiences to share? I need to know they’ll be able to slot into the Australian education system without any problems.
Grateful for advice
Thanks!!

Hi there

I can't offer any advice but you may get some on the following website:-

http://britvics.org/index/

We're moving from Edinburgh to Melbourne the end of next month but children are not in school yet!

Hope you get some positive responses.

Angela

No reason why they shouldnt slot into education in Australia - ignore the year level names you know now and put them in the year level of their age cohort here in Victoria. Their skills are likely to be well in advance of their Aus peers. As long as they are in education ready to begin year 11 at 16 they will be fine although they might also benefit from being able to start year 10 at 15 (or turning 15 before 30 April) as some kids do VCE courses in year 10

That all sounds encouraging so thanks for that.
The whole difference in term start dates etc makes the whole thing very confusing.

Still have to think about public or private schools, IB or VCE choices...
Will keep reading up online and checking here for more advice
Thanks!!
