Basically.....many people on 1 income do it because they arrived 5+ years ago...

We will go the private school route but then we don't buy 50k+ cars...

Lots of private schools in Australia are very cheap considering...

Yes, but for recent migrants, doing both will be tough on those kind of incomes. You either pay through your nose for the property in order to live in the desired school zone or else buy in a suburb with not so good schools and then go private. I haven't come across inexpensive private schools that are good. Nice to hear they do exist and would love to have some details. Thanks

People usually mean the Catholic Schools.

Round here unless you are a genuine church attendee, not much chance of a place, which is fair enough as the kids do study religion every day. I think the school got sick of non Catholics just going there for their cheap fees.

When we were looking at schools for son 3, came across quite a few with fees from 15 - 25K a year - melb and brisbane.

We ended up in a State High, mainly as it was the devils job to find schools that do Spanish as a second language. Fees around $2000 for the IB, and he is getting the equivalent of 4 XA and 2 XB so I think its more the kid than the school sometimes. By 11 and 12 it comes down to one main thing, is kiddo going to do the work or not.
