Hi we are about to relocate to the gold coast once the flooding has subsided and were looking for some advice on best areas to live and state primary schools for our 5 children. Any advice would be a great help as reasonably new to Oz especially the Gold Coast. Hoping to work in Southport. Also if anyone has any experience with renting property whilst looking for work? How do you get somewhere to rent with no job only a maybe? Help is greatly appreciated and happy new year to all.

On a hill!
Seriously though, can you get references to say you are solvent and can cover the period of the rental?

Not sure if this link will be any good for you? http://www.goldcoastaustralia.com/go...-profiles.html
BTW no flooding on the Gold Coast it was further up north, see map to give you some idea of the scale of QLD. Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Emerald are just 3 of the places affected.

Just checked and the last link to the suburb guide must be a little old, it talks of Westfield about to open! Here are another couple http://www.goldcoast.com.au/property...urb-guide.html

labrador has been known as one of the poorer areas of the coast but as they build the new hospital just up the road the house prices are about to rise.
ashmore, molendinar, arundel, pacific pines, helensvale are all withing 10 mins of southport by car.
Benowa, carrara, robina are all lovely areas and close'ish to the hospital
i cant help you with schools though, but most schools on the gold coast have a good name.
if your looking at areas in the south (arse end) end of the coast Moneypen its clued up about these areas. i look like i'm there to rob the place when i head south lol you have to be posh to live there

good luck

Thanks for all the info. We are moving down from Cairns when the flooding finally stops and the roads are passable, which is hopefully some time soon. Looking at areas of Ashmore, Helensvale, Bundall, Robina. further info about these areas and schools would be great. i am hoping to be working in Southport and possibly Brisbane? but not sure on the commute? is it horrile and will it take forever to get there? cheers!! enjoy the sunshine if you are getting it.
