Moving to Brisbane - where is the best place to be?
Hi guys
Wondered if you can help, we are gonna be moving to the Brisbane suburbs in the not too distant future and were wondering if there are any areas to avoid?
We are a young family (i'm 27 hubby 29 little girl 3 and a baby due 3 months) and we would be looking for a nice suburb geared for kids, maybe a few poms, good pub, low crime, short distance to city etc all the usual.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Leaving Toowoomba as we came on a RSMS regional visa and the 2 years are almost up. Been dying to move nearer Brissy and coast since we got here! Toowoomba a nice place, but a million miles away fro what we are used too coming from sunny Manchester!

Hi
I live in Sherwood (Western Suburbs) and I think it's a great area. Lots of young familys, close to shops and amenities and also good transport links to the city (15 mins by train). Good schools too and childcare as well! Maybe have a look along the Ipswich train line (Chelmer, Graceville [both bloody expensive!] Sherwood, Corinda, Oxley). Still some bargain properties to be found.

We have a 12, 10 and 2 year old and the schools come highly recommended. I have been in touch with them via email and they're really friendly and accommodating.
Hubby will be working in the city so it's great that both Sherwood and Graceville have train stations.

How about one of the bayside suburbs. We are about 1hr away from the city by train but somewhere such as Manly is only 30 mins away and it is on the coast so we get lovely sea breezes. Bayside is ideally situated for visiting the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast too.

We are heading out with two young kids (2+5) and our conclusion of a recent reccy trip was Wellington Point, it is a bit further out but only 40 mins by train or less by car from CBD, but has a very nice feel, lovelly little town bit, restuarants 7 pub parks, sandy beach bit and good schools etc

Re: Moving to Brisbane - where is the best place to be?
We live in Greenslopes which is a great area only 5km from city, close enough for a 15min bus ride to work, but still very much a suburban feel with local shops, parks and swimming pool. Coorparoo and Carindale are also further east going out towards the east coast (Manly/Wynnum/Wello Point direction). The eastern burbs out towards the coast may take a bit longer to get to the city at the moment but the Govt has just announced that they are building a new dedicated busway between Capalaba and the city servicing all those suburbs which means they will be really well connected.
I love living here - definitely a south-sider already!

Re: Moving to Brisbane - where is the best place to be?
I had a look at Wellington Point and Thornside area in Feb on a reccie and both were very nice areas, the only downside was the distance to the city if required for work. We are going out in 2 weeks for another reccie and intend to have another look at the bayside as well as the Mango Hill / North Lakes area. I didn't manage to have a look around Mango Hill last time but it looks like a nice new suburb with new schools, housing (quite reasonable prices too), next to a new golf course and only 20 mins from the city.
cheers
