How long have you been in Brisbane? Are you glad you made the move? Which area do you live? Sorry have some many questions, but it is just nice to talk to someone who has already made the move. Thanks again

Then i've had interview with the Royal Brisbane Hospital, for post grad midwifery programme. Am a bit confused though coz i recieved an email from the Royal brisbane stating i needed to chase my references up as they could not offer employment until they had them, but i have recieved a letter this morning for the Royal Brisbane (dated last friday) stating i had not been successful, so a bit confused  Kirstin |

Kirstin have you heard from the other hospital yet. when did you first contact them and how long was it before you got your interview. i feel like i have been playing a waiting game since i started midwifery and seems nothing changes when your qualified and looking for a job. what questions did they ask you, feel quite relieved now i know they do post grad programs i thought we would have to go to perth  cheryl:wub: |

Hello All
Have just joined this site after months of reading all the info from people. Myself, my husband, eight year old son and dog are looking to move to Brisbane. I have got telephone interviews in the adult ICU at Mater and neonatology at Mater Hospital next week, and i'm really nervous but have been reading up. I'm a staff nurse in ICU at present time and have just completed my midwifery degree also. It would be nice to hear from anyone who is going through this as well and those lucky people who have already made the move. Any advice gratefully received. |

Hi
Our good friend neighbour who lives across the road from us in Halpine lakes works for the mater and she loves it they even sponsered her on a 457 visa because the place is short of midwives, she does like it because she has come from coventry working in the hospitals and she feels full of knowledge because the uk trained people are more advanced in trainning than in australia, they have given her a company car and she works as on call aswell.i can see if she is on expats and get her to email her, or if you give me your email address i will pass it onto her, we also have a friend who lives in coomera who has just gone back into a midwife career. you will love it here:thumbup: thxs |
Re: Moving to Brisbane
Hi
My wife is a Mater Midwife (has been for years). In the last few months they'd had quite a few new arrivals (many from UK), but theres always a shortage. The Mater has just built a new building for the maternity unit to move into so I suspect birthsuite, ante-nat, post-nat and NICU will all be growing and looking for more midwives. Its a decent place to work most of the time and tehres flexibility to move between various units and switch from public/private depending on what your preferences are (more interesting 'hands on' work in public as theres less Dr intervention, but more 'cruisey' life in private) |

Re: Moving to Brisbane
Hi to you all.
Were coming to Brisbane in Sept 08. We've got family in Middle Park but like what we have read about Albany Creek, The Gap and Daisy Hill, all have schools that we like for our 14 year old daughter, 2 state schools and one public, want one that has good performing arts as she loves her dancing and drama (God Help Us, Another Primadonna!!!) Still thinking of going nearer the sea but houses seem so much more, do like the sound of Caloundra. Any thoughts???? Lisa |

Re: Moving to Brisbane
Great more midwives - have been looking out for ages for others hoping to move out to Queensland.
I am a Midwife - qualified 3.5 years ago and have a job offer in the bag from Queensland Health. Hoping to move out to Gold Coast area by the end of this year with OH and three boys aged 17,14 and 12. Looking at Robina area and Coomera - difficult to decide yet - need more info. Our journey so far - well - offered job in October 2007, applied for ANMC skills assessment end of November (took full 10 weeks to come through), completed visa application online for 175 skilled independent on 12th February, front loaded police checks, medicals completed today, still waiting for QNC registration though (has been 8 weeks so far). Would love to keep in touch with everyone else embarking on their journey - where are you all in the UK - I am in Farnham in Surrey. Happy to help anyone on their journey if you need information etc - just PM me. Jackie:thumbsup: x |
