Not sure where we want to live yet. I think we'll rent close to the CBD for the first 6 months (within 15k) then when we're ready to buy see where our jobs are and go from there

Not sure to go with ANZ or Westpac. Do you get a monthly charge with Westpac?

James

Hi James
Thanks for replying.

I put in a query with Airpets Oceanic at the weekend and got a quote this morning for £2271.00.

Thinking maybe I could do the paperwork and get Tally there. When you say all-in does that include kennels the other end-if so will you both be in Sydney to visit or will you have your pup sent airmail to Brisbane?

Tally is really a soppy dog and has never been away from us so I am a bit worried.

I looked at Westpac as it has loads of branches and cashpoints all over the place. Will send you the link tomorrow think it was the same $5.oo standing charge.

Talk to you later

Once again Thanks

Aly

Re: Moving To Brisbane

For short let furnished 3 or 4 bed houses, you should be looking at about $650 per week.

For slightly longer, say about 13 weeks, again furnished, you can get some 2 bed places for about $350pw.

Prices for short term furnished, tend to be about double the rate for long term unfurnished similar places.

Westpac bank link is http://www.westpac.com.au/internet/p...g+to+Australia

ANZ is http://www.anz.com/aus/promo/internresaccount/

Both have $5 per month unlimited use accounts.

Did the gateway village give you that quote? I emailed them and they quoted me less than $4,000 for 4 weeks for a 3 bedroomed holiday home for 3 adults and 2 kids ( in November though). What facilities do they have at Kangaroo point? would be interested in any info is its going to be much cheaper than gateway village, although gateway village has come highly recommended by another BE member who has stayed at a few of them.

Would recommend HSBC bank, if you are with them in UK you can open Aus account through their London International branch but have to be HSBC member otherwise you can join same bank over here on Brisbane Queens St. no problem when you get here by flashing visa's, passports, and driving license (UK ) etc.

Renting we rented in outer Brisbane through www.ozinvestrealty.com.au, set up the complete rental agreement from UK house was ready brand new for us to move into 11 days after we hit Oz and only costs $300 that's unfurnished with aircon, fans and big garden but no pool on nice estate.

Would recommend you try some of the travel lodges for cheap rooms like http://www.goldenchain.com.au/ similar to uk motels have beds for 3 to 4 people or bigger sometimes. Also try http://www.australianexplorer.com/brisbane_motels.htm.

Good luck with your travels... .

I got the quote online from Gateway Village.

Kangaroo point offers 3 different classes of accommodation, being 3.5, 4 and 4.5 star. The prices I quoted were for the 4.5 star apartments. Kangaroo Point came recommended from a BE member also BUT he did say that one potential problem is being placed near the road as it produces a lot of noise. However, if you get an apartment on the other side it is relatively quiet there. Take a look at Google Earth and you will see that a major road runs quite close to the location indicated on the Kangaroo Point Apartments website. The major plus point is that it is located on the doorstep of the Brisbane CBD.

http://www.kangaroopoint.com/prices.html.

Hope this helps.

Hello Mrs JFW

We have already booked the Gateway Village resort and it was approx. £1200 for 3 weeks in August for the best 3 bedroomed cabin they have. I am also a nurse, are you too? When do you think you might be going to Brisbane? We have flights booked for 6 August 06, we have had no offers on our house yet but we are going then anyway and will have to leave the house here to sell.

Hi Aly, your quote is about the same as ours. I've heard some horror stories about people trying to ship their dogs themselves it put us right off. The quote will include quarantine We're putting Lola in kennels this end for 2 week after we leave. This will then give us 6 weeks in Australia to settle down before she joins us. We are going to arrange for an internal flight to Brisbane We wont visit her in between Look's like it's going to cost another £300 for the flight from Sydneyo Brisbane

Good luck

James

Re: Moving To Brisbane

Hi there
I’m single female who will be 26 when I emigrate to Brisbane in September. I also work in HR and have been trying to find out how easily transferrable my skills will be. I have completed the CIPD so am hoping to get some exemptions from the AHRI but I’m not actually sure its as necessary as being a member of the CIPD is in England. I’m desperately trying to find out about Australian Employment Law as I’m guessing that will be the main difference but not had much luck so far. Are you intending on staying in HR?

I will be crashing at my aunt and uncles house in Auchenflower which is nice and central until I can get a flatshare sorted. I then intend to buy somewhere after 6 – 12 months. No pets to bring over with me though.
I don’t have that much stuff so will be looking at shipping a number of t-cartons. I’m desperately trying to avoid buying anything between now and then, be it cds, dvds, clothes or anything!

Re: Moving To Brisbane

Re. Kangaroo Point apartments - we stayed there when first arriving:

plus points:
- the 3.5 star rooms are clean and modern.
- two swimming pools
- easy to book over the internet from UK
- relatively handy for CBD & South Bank

negative points
- on a very busy road -its on the intersection of two main roads opposite the Gabba - some rooms are quiet others aren't. The swimming pools are a little exposed.
- whilst technically in Kangaroo Point its more like East Brisbane and is a long way from Kangaroo Point proper - which I feel is more the area near the Story Bridge Hotel (not a hotel - get used to it!)

For a similar amount of money to Kangaroo Apartments we moved to Bridgewater Apartments which is in the centre of Kangaroo Point.

Advantages over KP Apartments:

- MUCH nicer pool - tropical lagoon style - shared with the main Quest hotel there.
- On the river
- Near the City Ferry across to the CBD
- Restaurants nearby (Story Bridge Hotel and others)

http://www.australia-hotels.com.au/1...idgewater.html

Having said all that you won't go wrong at either place - they're both sensible places to start your adventure from.

Cheers

GLR
