Thumbs down Moving in April panic about exchange rate!

Anyone else moving over in the next month or so worried about the exchange rate. It looks like this is longer term so we will have to live from month to month and not send over our savings because we would lose to much money. It does make a huge difference to you start to your new life.

Thank you Kate, actually feeling calmer today. We are not going to Oz for fianciall reasons it really is for our kids but that said our kids make taking the step even more scarey.

Where are you moving too in July?. Do you have jobs lined up?

Hi Kate,

We have to children Kate is 12 and Matthew is 9. We are moving to Melbourne (Mornington Peninsular), I have family there and have been going over since I was 9 (many many years ago. We went to Perth in November to see friends who live in Woodvale (I think thats right) North of Perth (45 mins). They love it there and hace three boys 7,5 and 2. Have a 5 bed house with pool which they bought just before the property market went mad!!!!.

We do not have jobs but I did visit a few agency and companies when we went over but I dont think they like to offer jobs until you are in the country.

My boy loves his sport and to be outside and to be honest both my kids will make great ozzy's I believe. We ahve moved all over the place since they were little and we need to find our settled home. We are going with the attitude that if its not right we can always try somewhere else.

Best of luck Kate and enjoy Perth.

Exactly the same for us, flights not booked yet though, but now have no money and still struggling to rent out house.

We could start a club

Good luck

The valium club, smiling whilst slowly going mad

We found that we had to book flights because the dithering around saying lets wait for the rate, the house to sell etc. was unsettling the kids and lets face it you have to jump at some stage delaying it just frays the nerves.

The GBP has been overvalued for a long time. I wouldn't expect the rate to get much better in the short to medium term. In fact it could get a lot worse, I would bet that tha Aussie economy will outperform the UK possibly for as long as the next decade!

Now with Northern Rock being nationalised I'd expect the pound to get really hammered this week!
