I've moved a number of times with various companies, and it depends on the deal offered. If they move under an expat deal, your friend should expect to recieve housing allowance plus schooling allowance for any children he/she may have, plus private medical insurance as well as at least 1 flight home per year.

however if they move under a local agreement they wont get much apart from the cost of relocation plus maybe a few weeks hotel until a house can be found (unless the company offer a corporate apartment)

Having said that when I moved back to Australia (resigned not transferring), my company offered redundancy package, plus 3 months salary, plus relocation costs including cats, plus business class flights, so it just depends on the company.
