We have been with medibank private, wouldnt say it was affordable about $280 a month now, but we get back what we put in each year on dental mainly. 4x check up and cleans is $600. Twice a year, we are heading up to almost half of the premium back already.

Besides if we didnt have it we would both have to pay the extra medicare levy.

Almost identical to my situation - premiums are about $1400 per year for me but I get at least $500 per year back on physio/dental/prescriptions and I 'save' myself paying the medicare levy surcharge. I also have the 'security' of private cover - colleague is currently having his gall bladder out (privately) and the operation and hospital stay will only cost $200 (after medicare pays some and private pays some) and he would have waited 8 months minimum if he'd gone public.

I appreciate some people don't want/need/think it's necessary but for me it gives peace of mind!
