Question Mortgages!

Hi just wondering if anybody has any tips on how soon we can get a mortgage? we are arriving in perth at the beginning of June. My husband is a carpenter, he may wish to become self employed (the same as in the Uk) but if he does this many months accounts would he need to show? we have approx 25% deposit to put down. If he decided to become employed how many pay slips would he need? any info would be very gratefully recieved! Thank you!

Sorry cant help with the self employed part but we only had to give 2 pay slips each. We both had full time employment contracts but they never asked to see them. This was with Bankwest.
