Default Mortgage on temp visa ?

Could anyone tell me if they got a mortgage while being on a temp visa? I know you have to apply to the FIB first but i would like to know if there are any company's that will give you the mortgage if you get the permision.

Most will offer a mortgage but you probably needa 20% deposit

We had no worries getting a mortgage after 3 months of being here. We decided to build our own house. We paid for the block cash and got the mortgage for the build.

We used a finacial advisor who was absolutely brilliant all the way through.

We got a mortgage and we didn't have any visa!

Got a one approved in Dec 06 to buy land after a reccie, and since added further mge for the house build. Visa was only granted in Jan this year.

We did have to put down the 20% deposit and jump lots of hoops however.

Big disadvantage with buying on a 457 is that you cannot claim the first time buyers rebate back.

As said above FIRB & 20% down is enough.
