Would be half a dozen Thai restaurants I can think of that are nicer, or have more authentic Thai cuisine and that is in Melbourne alone, let alone the rest of the world.

Hi all,
anyone know Mordialloc and/or surrounding areas? Looking for a nice place to live near the beach. Like everyone else - looking for the perfect place to live!! Obviously we will have to compromise a bit but ideally looking for:
* Nice area
* Good community
* Good beaches
* Not a tourist hot spot
* Low crime / safe place
* Not a party place but still some cafes / bars etc
DOes Mordialloc fit the bill?????

I would be very surprised if you did not love living in Mordy
Think there is a rental coming up when a certain person finishes their Mansion

The problem I would have is that if you go every week the food looses its spark.

Just wanted to say that I live in Cheltenham, I love going to Mentone and Mordy. Mentone has a nice "feel" to it.

Nope.
I stand by my statement. And I have eaten thai food in UK, New Zealand, America, THAILAND, and believe it or not Mexico.
Actually Gingerboy in Melbourne CBD would be on a par, but it's a very different flavour of Thai cuisine.
BTW a new restaurant is opening in Mordialloc, Louise you might be interested to hear about this, it's another bigger branch of Parkers in Parkdale.

ok everyone calm down...I think we have all had too much fish sauce.
As for what Mordialloc is like, well I took someones advice from this forum, it might well have been Busybee actually, and we have moved here and I absolutely love it so far, lots of character, walk to the beach, plenty of places to eat/drink, big shopping center 10 mins away and a general safe feeling about the place.
Only problem for me is my wife and dogs dont move over from Perth for another 3 weeks, so I havent really enjoyed any of the above so far!

And as for being better than anything in Thailand, well that's just nonsense.
Some of the better ones are :
Mamanee - Collingwood - specialises in Southern Thai dishes
Thai Culinary - Elizabeth St - some of the best duck and beef noodles soups
Toorak Thai - South Yarra - general Thai
Yim Yam - Yarraville - specialises in Isaan/Laos food
Khrua Thai - Richmond - General
Ying Thai - Richmond/Ying Thai 2 - Carlton
All these restaurants have a large Thai following.
If you want the Gingerboy type place then Long Grain would be better.

Doesn't have to be the best thai in the world - if the food is decent people will come. Which people is the real debate

A friend of ours is a professional food critic and she recommends the place. She acknowledges its not the best Thai she has "ever" had but its still rates as a place she returns to time and time again.
Away from the food debate Mordy is still highly recommended

Hiya
Just to say that we live in Aspendale which is the next suburb down the bay, close enough to walk into Mordy and I find the beach this side of the creek a lot quiter, as there is no real parking until you get to Edithvale, you tend to just get the locals.
On the downside, if you have got High school aged kids, the local state school has not got the best reputation - not got first hand experience but this is just what I have heard.
Good luck with it all
