Monthly Budget help!!
I wonder if anyone could give us some idea of what we would need $ wise to live on monthly.
My husband has been offered a job and we would like to work out if we would be ok financially until i got the children settled and then found a part time job of my own.
We are a family of 4. 2 adults, 2 children (9 and 14)
We are hoping to move to the Sunshine Coast next summer.
If anyone could give me information on the following monthly spending would be really, really appreciated:
House Insurance
Car Insurance
Life Insurance
Health Insurance
Car Rego
Internet
Home Phone
Mobile (2)
Electric
Gas
Rates
Food
House Contents Insurance
Petrol (2 cars)
Pet Insurance (1 medium dog)
Thank you for reading this post and helping out.

House Insurance -
Car Insurance - $500 a year for a large 4x4 . $20,000 (agreed value).
Life Insurance - n/a for us.
Health Insurance - n/a for us, but I think it`s from about $50 a month for a family. I heard you can get certain special things if you apply within 12 months of moving here (don`t have to pay extra taxes or something). Look for HBF etc.
Car Rego - can`t remember atm. about $130 a year?
Internet - $145 connection fee. $45 a month with Exetel (128 up/512 down, 40GB download limit) www.whirlpool.net.au .
Home Phone - $20 line rental a month (Telstra HomeSaver). Don`t use the phone too much, maybe a call a day. about $20 of calls per month on average.
Mobile (2) - Pre-paid is best if you`re not a heavy user... $20 a month for my wife, and $10 a month for me.
Electric - $140 per 3 months.
Gas - erm, $100 per 3 months? Maybe less.
Rates - about $240 per quarter. Depends on where you live (size of house/which council etc).
Food - $200 per week TOPS for us. Lot`s of baby food in tins (2 girls... 1 and 2) and nappies.
House Contents Insurance - about $30 pm iirc.
Petrol (2 cars) - Unleaded is about 1.15 p/l , Diesel about $1.25 here atm.
Pet Insurance (1 medium dog) - n/a for us. Licence is about $40 a year I think.
Bringing your own cars over? Don`t do it. Buy a car or 2 here. If you spend around $15k you`ll have a really good one. Most decent ones are around $10k. Can get a good runaround for less than $5k.

Re: Monthly Budget help!!
House Insurance - $680
Car Insurance - $450 ish (i'm 27, once you hit 30 it goes down and they will recognise no claims from UK with proof.
Life Insurance - oops
Health Insurance - about $100-150 per month for a family
Car Rego - $130 a quarter I think.
Internet - $50 a month for broadband
Home Phone - $20 line rental
Mobile (2) - vodaphone $49 cap a month gives $230 calls
Electric - about $200 quarter
Gas - about same i think
Rates - $800 - 1200 a year
Food - $200-$300 a month
House Contents Insurance - incl in above
Petrol (2 cars) - very dependant on size of car and miles, etc - about $40 p/wk
Pet Insurance (1 medium dog) - too expensive although people on here have recommended pet plan so worth a look.
Important to note that the state you're in makes a massive difference on rates and utilities, can't remember the site but there is a website that will show comparisons, you'll have to google.

Re: Monthly Budget help!!
Is this thread for a family of 4
Food 200 -300 a month
Rates 240 a Q
Health insurance 50 a month
elec 140 3 months
Sound very very very low.
Our costs
Food is more like 200 - 300 a WEEK
Rates 2200 year or 1900 without sewarage and those have since gone up
Health insurance 227 Medibank private per month
elec 387 Q but we have solar and gas costs also just gone up since that bill
These are for the area the OP asked about and are pretty much in line with the costs in many other threads on the subject.
