Hello Again,

thought i'd ask this one...

in the Immigration application there was a question on the amount of money you are to bring to Australia.

So do Dimia or any other department asks or checks weather you had really broght the mentioned amount with you, or it does not matter for them...

Hope some one has an answer for this.

No they dont check - you cannot bring more htan 10K$ in cash (!) through customs without declaring it (but you wont make it to customs it will have been nicked off you at one or other of your stop-overs).

(Except maybe for retirement visas where you have to prove your wealth)

We have the money from a car and a few other bits and rather than transfer it between banks i was juts going to exchange it and bring it with me ..

can i get some in stirling travellers cheques or something?

Would you really feel safe carrying that much cash with you across the world?
Leave it in the bank and draw it out in cash this side

As for checking what you bring with you - no, they don't check what you bring to see if it matches up.

will they check to make sure it matchs your answer to the question on the immigration App. form?

Most people put it in a bank and do a bank transfer rather than actually bring it all with them.

There are lots of threads on moving money -search for the word tranzfers (spelled with a Z ) that will find them for you.,

Under $10k cash - you don't need to declare.

Over you do but it is still allowed - you must just have to answer some questions about its source. Proof of car/house sale etc should be fine. Undeclared amounts may even be seized I believe.
