Mobile Phone "Unlocking"

Mobile Phone "Unlocking"
Here's an interesting thing.
We were pondering the mobile phone unlocking for using any network etc.
Had a chat with a very helpful guy in one of the local mobile phone shops, who said most of them, with the exception of a few pay as you go phones are already unlocked!
I said that I found it hard to believe, then he proved it with my contract phone any sim worked in it!! Then same again with other half's phone (pay as you go) it worked as well on all networks!!
The guy said loads of people pay for codes etc that you do not need.
The only downside, aparrently, is that some of the original network logos etc may remain.
Best way to check is try a sim from another network.
