Have used Vodafone, Optus, and Telstra and for signal there's only one choice as already stated.

Prob the most expensive but you get what you pay for, and I can get 5mbps down and sometimes 5mbps up in the right spot when I tether my laptop to my phone via Telstra's 3G network, which aint too shabby! Can get 3+ down and 1.5 up everywhere tho! ...

If Optus works for you and you're a big data user, consider getting Amaysim unlimited deal for $40. Int calls are 5c a min to big destinations too.
