Bit of recent advice here
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442470

If you have been a while in my experience in telecoms then capacity issues in Perth for Virgin are most likly as they are an MVNO with Optus. Vodafone seems to have little traffic in Perth and has no connection issues. Telstra has base stations all over the place so is fine but alot of businesses use them. 3 is also fine. In the CBD they use their 3G network and outside Telstra's 2G.
Normally its more about the package you want in terms of calls then capacity. IMO use VF or Optus directly.
