Re: Missing Miners are alive
hopefully this is true, and not a premature announcement like in America earlier this year
|
Re: Missing Miners are alive
Watched Sky news about 15minutes ago and the Mayor said that the rescue team had spoken to them but it was going to be quite difficult to get them out. Hope all goes well.

The other wants to go through McDonalds drive through with the lights flashing. Both obviously suffering and not thinking straight. |

Re: Missing Miners are alive
latest news (1:30am brisbane time) is that it could take at least another 6-8 hours as the last bit of rock they need to break through is not porus and will take longer than they first throught.
the 2 guys are planning to walk out but with 11/12 days of not being able to stand up their legs might not take it. |

Re: Missing Miners are alive
Just watched sky news for the press conference. The rock is harder than expected (like trying to chip 1.6m solid rock with a carving knife), and it will be several hours yet. Media asked if they would be out today, answer was that although that's what everyone is hoping for, they cannot promise that as they seem to run into an obstacle after another. The rock was expected to be 5 times harder than cement but is apparently a lot harder than that.
Guys are ok, anxious but ok, after they are freed, they face nearly 40 minute drive in up from current location, up the lift, check ups with medicos and family reunion before they would be seen in public. Still hoping they can walk out by themselves but not sure if they can as low blood pressure alone can make them too dizzy to walk. The risk of DVT is also there. There will be taken to a hospital for at least 24 hrs for monitoring and medical checks, for psychological reasons they will be sharing a room and hospital has also put aside couple of rooms for the family to be able to be close by. Gotta hand it to them, they have gone through something extraordinary, to be in a small cage sitting with 900m of solid rock on your neck for nearly two weeks, I don't know how they coped, or their families for that matter. Still, hoping for the best outcome, the mine has been warning many times now that this stage is actually the most dangerous one as they have no idea haw the rock and tunnels will behave as they dig their way through the floor. Fingers crossed. |

Channel 7 has a special prog at 11am |
Re: Missing Miners are alive
they're using gas discharges (ahem!!) to crack the rock making it easier to remove, but latest update was that it might even be tuesday by the time they're out!!

Thank god what an ordeal :) They were freed at 4.45 I beleive....they both walked from the mine entrance(after being checked over and pressure washed) to be greeted by their families, They did their usual and took their tags from the board, and I must admit they looked in excellent shape, and had they got their way they would have walked out the gates of the mine. They are now in hospital getting checked out and they are determined to go to Larry's funeral this afternoon at 1pm |
