Hmmm so they just help themselves while no-one can see and there's nothing you can do about it. Charming!

We had stuff go missing to tools, dvd player and a few other small items. We also think it was at customs. We did claim and got $1000 back.

If, like me by the time you get round to unpacking ALL the boxes some months later you find these things have gone missing - its too late to claim. We just put it down to experience. We have moved twice since we arrived and I still have 2 boxes which I haven't unpacked (been here 2 years!), albeit spare clothes and some kitchenware as at present we don't need them.

Packing would seem the most obvious time. I don't want my gadgets and other things ziked.
Packing at the house definitely, our stuff wasnt inspected by customs and all boxes were sealed and intact.

I think they only take minor things which you wouldn't miss as much, like DVDs etc.

I know we cannot insure for damages only total loss but the way we have packed is alot better than the so called 'pros' plus there are no theft opportunities now apart from Customs and AQIS in Oz!
Can you double check that?? I've just had a payout from Letton Percival due to damage caused to our bedroom set. They paid out for an entire new set, ie kingsize bedframe, 2 x bedside cabinets, wardrobe, tall boy and mirror. It was only the mirror, bedframe and 1 x cabinet that were damaged.

I wouldn't call a dvd player a minor item! What if they take liking to my DVD recorder with built in hard drive or 42" plasma tv!

We used John Mason and had a couple of small pocket size pieces of pottery missing. No boxes were opened by customs that we are aware of.

We used Crown and they stole our tea spoons. It was definitely the packer (we even know which one) because AQIS didn't open any boxes.

The spoons weren't even a set. Still baffled why the guy nicked them.

Maybe they do it just to hack people off knowing that it's unlikely you'll be able to get matching replacements after you've arrived in Oz.

Glad I read this thread as we've been racking our brains where a couple of bits have gone.

I'm missing a china teddy with raised paw, I had 3 off them, the other two I have here now but they were brought at an antique fair and are 'copies' the missing one my dad brought me when I was born and it's an origonal and worth more, it has more detail on it than the copies and just looks better, anyway that's gone as is............ my potato masher, stainless steel fancy one but where the heck it is who knows?? I brought some china bits over for an Ozzie friend who left them with us and they went in our container, she has it all except a china cow??

When our stuff was repacked by AQIS over here, they put our large tv on top of upright mattresses, resulting in it falling 6' to the ground and smashing! Also have a lot of wood furniture that has had stuff loaded on top of it and it's marked/indented/scratched.

Ouch! Did you claim from insurance? I would have been seriously peeved.
