Ashame the government is not tackling increasing the productivity of the existing population. Ian Macfarlane made an interesting point asking why the training of skilled workers needed for the resources boom was not happening.

New migrants are needed as well.

Same applies to the UK. We do not need a skilled immigration policy (or unskilled for that matter). We have the EU to provide our labour needs, plus we can train the next generation (maybe not so straightforward).

Indeed the CBI identified the mass of unemployables that leave school at 16.
