Tullamarine I think.... they even named a road after them.... Beveridge drive... Fair dinkum !

Big plant up there.

Tullamarine, is only 20k's from the city.... Actually its more Airport west... same area... so about 20 mins to the CBD..... although in the rush hour you would be looking at least 90 mins travel each way to The SEast Burbs.

Tip.... Look around Mt Macedon. (this is after throwing hands up in desperation at migrating poms in general, who insist on commuting to work in a country where one can easily aford to live very close to work) Mt Macedon, would suit any space loving, rural seeking, escapist, car living/loving Migrant, and less than 45 mins from Tullamarine.

Plenty of houses like the following, in most migrants price range.... Fancy 4 acres of pristine mountain. Too far out for most Aussies.... but fine seemingly for new migrants. Oh yes and dont beleive the Estate agent about 45 mins to the CBD.... Maybe on a Sunday at 3am. (However Tullamarine being North of the Main Rush hour mob makes it a 35 minute Rush hour drive from Mt Macedon, Half the Airports workforce live in that area, seeing as it's fairly close to work)

cheers Bordy, that link is really helpfull. Will start to contact them all when i know a date for my arrival.

also thanks to TheBears, will look these two up also.

ozzieeagle, will look at this but i think that it will be too far to commute from Mentone. Up to now this is where we would like to be, but will look into what you have said as things may change when we arrive.

Thanks again all

Darren

I should look it up.... However I beleive the Coca Cola plant is out Laverton way... wrong side for you.... It could be over in Cheltenham though, which is on the Mentone side.

Perhaps SKimpy could look at Williamstown rather than Mentone? Laverston is the next junction on the motorway and would this not be closer to tullarmarine?

(I secretly like Williamstown :) )

Yes a lot closer.... about 30 mins I reckon. A decent place in Willy would cost at least 650.000 AUD though...... Hmmm but you could save at least 50 bucks per week petrol money towards your mortgage by living there, more like 150 AUD pweek from Mentone.

Yes it's the Norths equivalent of the Dandenongs, Same great dividing range, same kind of flora and Fauna. If your work is north of the Ring road, then it's worth looking at as a place to live.

Some brilliant housing out there at around 700,000 Aud.

Basically I think we are saying, that Mentone is a long way from any significant food processing/bottling plant. Most of which seem to be Located in the North and West

Although there is a coca cola wharehouse in clayton.

The biggest employer in your feild in Melbourne is here....

Sorry mate

You probably need to first address employment areas and then review what lifestyle you require ie bush setting or seaside and then budget accordingly.
