Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone provide us with HIS/HER experience of melbourne's weather. I askaed a friend of mine and he told me STRANGE! , what is that???
Moreover, can we see any snow in Oz??

My hubby is from Victoria. He says the weather is quite changeable, 4 seasons in one day kinda thing. It can get to over 40 on the hot days and the mountains get snow in the winter, and you can ski. When I've been it's been very varied. I like it though. Gorgeous State to live in.

As a Melbournian I can safely vouch for the weather - its mental. But in a nice way

My English husband on the other hand tells everyone we meet that it never gets as cold as it does in the UK (true) and that he loves it. There is an element of 'Four Seasons ...' about it (hence the song) but its not extreme. Unless you find 40 degree summer days extreme ...

Having said all that - its a wonderful city, and if you are hoping to make it your home you won't regret it!

Yup, I second the poster who said it is mental.

Tuesday 1 Nov: about 30C sun.
Wednesday 2 Nov: peaked at 34C where we lived
Thursday 3 Nov: Huge thunder storm, rain, rain.

This week, my colleagues swear they saw an incy-wincy bit of snow drifting by the 20th floor of my office building, though it may have melted by the time it hit ground level.

But in reality snow is very, very rare. One day in July there was some snow in some outlying suburbs of Melbouorne. First snow in 10 years. People were quite surprised by its appearance.

But nobody gets stressed about it - it's just not like the UK - no drama.

We have been in Victoria nearly 2 months and I can say that the weather (in Spring at least) is mad. We have had spring storms that apprear out of nowhere, yesterday I walked the 5 mins to school to pick up the kids and suddely gale force winds appeared and nearly blew my daughter's pushchair over. We all got soaked on the way home but when I had left it was sunny with the only sign of a storm being a few clouds. The thing is though, that it is gone as quickly as it arrives and then we are back to bright sun, we are even enjoying the rain (at times) and it does make for a more interesting life.
When we got here we went to the coast on a day trip and then up to the mountains for the kids to play in the snow the following weekend, they think that it is the best place on earth (the snow has gone now though).

we live about 9kms out of the city centre.
In July for the first time in 5 winters, I had sort of frost on my windowscreen- but it was very half hearted and had melted by the time I pulled out of the drive.(..there again the drive is 60kms long - as if!)
In September we had gales and thunderstorms leading to power cuts during one week. melbourne cup day was gorgeous- cup day 2004 was pouring with rain and heavy winds.

Basically there is weather and a lot of it.
The only thing which is guaranteed is that Jan and Feb will be a lot warmer than the rest of the year, and July and Aug a lot cooler!

I find it varies between wind, rain, sun and not snowin. Much like Whitley Bay except it can snow there in winter, or summer
