I really don't see what the problem is with Perth being remote!
Who cares, you have everything you need in WA, and if you do want to go east, it'll just take a bit more time. Going around Australia will take the same time!
You could say that if you live in Sydney you are very remote, because you're so far from Perth, Darwin and Singapore!
Everywhere it always says: Perth is the most remote city, so? It still has bloody McDonalds, work, houses, clubs supermarkets, banks, probably Ikea, so who cares! And I'd call a town in the Pantanal in Brazilia more remote, even if it was less km's to the next town.

Anyway, I choose Perth, because I lived there before, I still have friends there, the weathers much better (it depends on what you like!) and I've only been to Melbourne once when I was 5, so I can't say much more about it.
I'm not sure but Melbourne is probably more expensive as Perth. (houses etc).

I think I am just wary of Perth's remoteness as for years I lived in one of the most remote places in Scotland. It meant that if I wanted to go to a concert or shopping or anything, I had to travel for hours first. Adelaide seems a bit more central so that. I do appreciate that if I want to go somewhere else, I will still have to travel. Just not as far as I would if I lived in Perth.

I guess I just like being in the midst of things now I have had a taste of it.

Still, I may change my mind when I get there as I have heard nothing but good reports about Perth. (Well, that's discounting PB)

Hmmm, well Perth has 1 and something million residents, so it's huge and therefore of course has everything: Perth Entertainment Centre for big concerts and sporting events. Of course also lots of smaller venues.
Lots of malls wth like 200 shops. And of course the city centre.
Etc etc.
So, sorry, I still don't get why Adelaide or Melbourne would be better. Except if you want to be near Sydney, but why? It's just a big city like all others all over the world..., right?

To be honest I think you missed my earlier point. I reckon all Australian State Capital Cities are remote compared to Europe not just Perth.
Do you think an 18 hour drive between Sydney and Brisbane is not remote !! Therefore I don't think remoteness is an issue as all the cities are self contained infrastructures with vast distances inbetween.
Although in saying all that I must admit that I did get that weird feeling while holidaying in Perth !?

Melbourne, without a doubt!!

Perth is fab, the remoteness doesnt really affect you that much, after all we even have an airport here now! But... MElbourne is cooler in both repects (climate and goings on) and they have clothe shops we recognise from the UK which can help to avoid some of the AUS nightmare fashions for those of us who have to wear more than string and high heals when we go out.
So I guess its what your after, Perth has more sunshine hours, fab beaches and amazing lovelyness on the doorstep. Melbourne is more hip. (thats why I dont move there incase anyone is interested.....I am not in the least bit hip and at least in Perth beer is served in pints not pots and schooners) I only need beer and a good kebab shop to keep me happy most of the time.
