Default Melbourne - Tourism Victoria survey

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...9-2862,00.html

"MELBOURNE is the nation's No. 1 tourism destination for sport, culture, shopping, theatre, restaurants, bars and nightlife, a new survey shows.

The survey of 1200 Australians found that Melbourne was judged the shopping capital and was rated highly for its cafe, bar and nightclub environment.

Victoria came first for regional food and wine. "

I agree, Melbourne is a city of experiences not Landmarks! Fantastic place to live, been here nearly 3 years and it still excites me. Love it! I prefer that it does not have that have 'International' attractions like the Harbour Bridge , Melbourne doesn't need them, its a fantastic place anyway it dioesn't need to hide behind the big international tourist attraction to give it a name!

A few months ago there was a report saying that the ads to entice people to Aus (Where the bloody hell are you) were a failure. However the report went on to say that the ads for Victoria (Pieces of Victoria) were working very well both locally and overseas. They main point of the report seemed to be that the Aus ads was offering nothing new whereas tourism in Vic has been about promoting "experiences" as well as landmarks.

Melbourne is a truly fantastic place and it is where we hope to be. I do have to say though that I loved the 'Where the bloody hell are you?' campaign - in these PC days, it's nice to have a bit of levity!

Yes a bit like the need for more of "scruff workmen gear ads", which for the life of me cannot see why it was banned from this site

Well maybe I do but hey ho

I thought it was a great ad campaign too.

However the report was saying it failed its intended purpose. The main criticism was that it was promoting nothing new (i.e. it was just an updated version of "throw another shrimp on the barbie").
