I just had another glance through the summary report.
If you completely remove "Infrastructure" from the equation, Adelaide would be considered just as liveable as Melbourne, and would surpass Sydney.
If you completely remove "Culture/Environment" from the equation, Perth would be considered just as liveable as Melbourne, and would surpass Sydney.
Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide have a stability rating of 95... yet Sydney is 90. I wonder why ?

I love it when the EIU reports this. It really does scratch the bottom of the ukopians as they don't want to be seen dismissing a great British institution.

Liveable doesn't mean good. It just means the city is full of boring pathetic and contempt individuals. Nothing wrong with this but people who spent their youth and single years in fantastic cities but then have decided to live a quieter life shouldn't really be allowed to have an opinion on this issue imo.
Adelaide is a classic example. An absolute dump of a city with really nothing going for it. Wouldn't live there for a million dollars a year but perhaps for a short term I would be happy earning 5 pound an hour in London.

Didn't Melbourne get 97 points and Brisbane 94 points (out of 100)?
Brisbane can be frustrating but I'd hardly call the survey results conclusive
This Melbourne resident sure as hell thinks likewise: http://jaccerz.com/43

Melbourne back on top in liveability stakes
Melbourne has regained the title of the world's most liveable city after topping a survey that ranked 140 cities around the world.
Melbourne scored 97.5 per cent in the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Survey - jumping ahead of former titleholder Vancouver to the number one spot.
Sydney moved one spot up the ranking from seven to six, and Perth and Adelaide remain unchanged at joint eighth place.
"Australia, with a low population density and relatively low crime rates, continues to supply some of the world's most liveable cities," Jon Copestake, Economist Intelligence Unit survey editor said in a media release.
Vancouver's score slipped after a lower rating for infrastructure.
The liveability survey originated from companies seeking information on whether they needed to pay a hardship allowance for employees relocating to new cities.
Cities are scored on political and social stability, crime rates and access to quality health care.
The survey also measures the diversity and standard of cultural events and the natural environment; education and the standard of infrastructure, including public transport.
Melbourne has scored near the top of global livability surveys for the past decade.

For what it is worth Bangkok was voted in Travel & Leisure the worlds best city.
Really rather farcical to my thinking but these things need not be taken too seriously.
We all know what and where we like so who cares?

Certainly not my view of Melbourne, but then I dont do the CBD a vast amount, and i think thats true of most people isnt it?
To me Melbourne spans a vast area, not just the CBD....theres beaches, mountains, national parks etc that all come within the metropolitan area, all within simple driving distance and the sporting and concert events are all over the place. I'm not saying its the best city in the world, but I'm glad its home
