Re: Melbourne Cup Day
Get the steeplechase back. This race is over in 3 minutes! I didnt even have chance to open my beer. I dont see the difference from this race and any other flat race apart. Theres no excitement as there are no fallers or horses refusing jumps. Pretty poor excuse for a "world class" race if you ask me.

Re: Melbourne Cup Day
If the international racing fraternity reckon it's one of the world's premier races, and international trainers are desperate to get over here and win it then it must be.
I don't know too many horse races worldwide that get 110,000 crowds and the winner gets $3.3 million |
Re: Melbourne Cup Day
And then there is the cockroach racing at our local ... it's a sporting hotbed full of prestige is Oz. ;)

It's a no big deal race, technically. The point is the history of the carnival, and the season, and the occasion. |

Re: Melbourne Cup Day
I went to the cup, was a great day, kept pinching myself... living in Melbourne, and at the cup! It was all just a dream 3 years ago! :)

It is one of the biggest horse races in the world - FACT!. Lets celebrate the fact not knock it. Especially you lucky buggers in Vic who have a day off. A great spectacle and no mean feat to win it. Its pure racing not the ridiculous cruel lottery of the Grand National!
And for those of of you who lost your shirts... I'd did advise Maluckyday in about Post 3! The only event I have seen that beats anywhere else is NYE on Sydney Harbour, theyve got that nailed down to a T. |
