Which bit of Surrey?

London is very diverse so I think you'd have to be specific! I expect inner London is very different to suburban London.

I find getting across Mellie just as much hassle as the SE of England! 2 hours to get to Brunswick last week and another 2 hours back again, all for 30 mins with the accountant - grrrrrr!

Thats why I very rarely go to Mornington..... I've never considered it Melbourne personally. Especially when you Consider that most of Brunswick is less than 4 k's from the CBD.

Torquay is easier to get to than Mornington from here.

London has its moments, I enjoyed some of the 6 yrs or so I was there. But its such a bloody hassle to get from A to B, and everywhere is so crowded, it just tortures your soul. Maybe its just very fresh in my memory as I've just left there (and I was living in a posh area in Surrey, still couldn't get over the hassles :-)

It's going to be really interesting when my 25 yo Daughter returns from living for the past 5 years in London.... I will make a specific point of asking her after 6months back which City she considers better. (in fact I will bookmark this page and highlite March for that question)

Melbourne really does seem to have a lot of night life compared to most Cities. I do know that Buenos Aires rocks though.... Apparently Vancouver is another happening place.

To say it's boring probably means that said person hasnt seen it at its best... Best Being Fitzroy, St Kilda, Carlton, Brunswick, Northcote, Richmond, Prahran.... then the CBD after those. Preston is coming onto the scene now, Although Preston is mostly restaurants.... the Bars will come.

We have been called country and rural before now!

We really wanted to live in Torquay but it just wasn't practical for our business plus OH really hates the drive down there. The Peninsula is great and has been really good for our business as we get to know other local businesses down here.

We can go for ages without having to go up to the city but then you have to do it 2 or 3 times in a week and then it gets tedious! I think last Weds was bad because it was raining quite heavily.

I am pretty well-travelled, have just moved to Melbourne and would say its one of the best cities I've ever been to (up there with San Francisco, Cape Town, Montreal). But obviously everyone looks for different things.

For me its main deal is that it offers the feel of a big city with the feel of small towns and open space. Good nightlife, but if you like sports theres plenty to do.

London is a dive. It may be interesting at times, but its a really shit place to live. And its nightlife is well worse than Melbournes, as a rule (unless you're a cokehead that has the money and attitude to hang out in celeb bars and clubs).

New York is a great city (I lived close to it for 7 years), but if you live there you can forget about any sport or outdoor activities as theres next to none on the island.

Madrid is a nice city, but most Spaniards consider it quite boring so not sure how you got that one on there.

BA is supposed to be beautiful but even Brazilians consider it dangerous so maybe a fun place to spend a few months but not a great place to live.

Munich is pretty but pretty dead.

Istanbul - no experience there.

Anyway, you seem to just be trolling so I probably shouldnt have gone for the bait :-)

Sorry but anyone that calls Buenos Aires very dangerous by Brazilian standards is either dreaming or delusional. I know it is only what you heard, not your experience. So not calling you delusional. Crime here rarely goes beyond petty theft. Having said that, nowhere is perfect. And the comparison I made was for the 'exciting' 'amazing' 'beautiful' 'importance on world stage' rather than livability for a family of 4.

I don't love London either and it is probably quite rough and ugly in most areas, but London is London and no one can dare to argue how important it is as a world capital of many things, along with New York. And this is coming from a non-British.

Madrid never sleeps, I don't think it is particularly pretty but it is one of those cities where you will find car and human traffic day and night, very noisy too and lots of fun, 24/7.

What Melbourne always reminded me of was a 'smaller cleaner London' more than any other city, it may be due to the bleak- gloomy - brown - gray factor.

Cape Town.. They have probably 5 times more crime there than Buenos Aires, and we are talking serious crime. All white South Africans I know left the country for good- because of how dangerous it became, and yes economic conditions.

My car got stolen twice in Australia- same car, in Brisbane and Sydney, never happened elsewhere. And Australia is a very safe country.

And I can not believe how expensive Australia became over the last few years, with strong Aussie dollar, strong economy and lack of competition and being so far away from the rest of the world. And it is not generally a case of 'if you earn in Aussie dollar, you live well' either, it is less affordable now for Aussies too with the increase in costs in AUD- generally speaking. 200-250 dollars for a decent room in a shared flat, not including bills? That is what you pay in London.
