Medicare & Private Health Insurance
As a migrant on a parent contributory visa I know I am entitled to medicare, do I also need private health insurance. It may seem like a silly question, up to now I thought I only paid a portion of the costs and medicare paid the rest, if for instance I was admitted to hospital, recently someone said that I also needed private Health Insurance as well. I have been looking on sites given to me by a ex pat forum member and it looks very expensive.

Re: Medicare & Private Health Insurance
I don't know for sure.
However, if you are entitled to Medicare, then you do not IN THEORY need private, but do IN PRACTICE eg in some locations there is a 2 yr plus wait for an elective hip replacement op etc. If u have private, u can be seen much faster.
