Default Medicare Levy

Now we have taken out Private Health Insurance, do we still pay the Medicare Levy.

You pay the normal levy, but not the extra levy if your earnings go over the threshold (50k for singles or $100k for couples). Although I think you need to get it before or at the begining of the new tax year to be exempt for the current year (not 100% sure on that)

Correct - they will do a prorata calculation for part year private medical so the date you started can be entered into the Tax Return.

The Medicare Levy Surcharge is what you will become exempt to

the limits quoted here are also correct but can be more if you have dependant children

I know you're not nitpicking mate. I couldn't be bothered looking up all the details myself so went with the simple bits
