Thumbs up Medicals in Southampton

For all the newbies ... just wanted to let you know that we have just had our xrays and medicals done in Southampton.

We had our chest xrays done at the Chalybeate Hospital in Southampton and took them along to the GP visit. The xrays cost £61.50 each. They took a swipe of our credit card but said we would be sent an invoice in a few days.

The medicals were with Dr Goodall, Walnut Tree Surgery. What a lovely man!! He talked through our questionnaires, asking us questions about anything we had listed. We then had our blood pressure taken and chest listed to, height and weight recorded, sight and urine tests and a blood sample for HIV.

Our just-2 year old daughter was too young for the xray, urine or blood test but Doc listed to her chest, checked her ears, height and weight. These cost us £140 each and our daughter's cost £30. The medicals took an hour for all 3 of us.

We enjoyed ourselves so much - we almost forgot to pay!!!

Before we went to Southampton we had a phone around locally to find out whether we would save anything by travelling a little further afield but actually Southampton worked out the cheaper option for us.

I know how helpful it has been to find out info on the migration process on these forums so I hope this helps someone! Best wishes, Katy x

Yep - we went to the same Doc. Nice guy. Told us about his trips home while he was a med student driving from Perth to Tasmania. Very entertaining - and you don't really feel you're having a medical exam.

I booked our meds & xrays today so thought I would put the costs in for comparison. We are going to a GP in Edinburgh and to Murrayfield Hosp for the xrays.

X-rays are booked for the 20th Dec and will cost £70.50 each (2 adults). The first available appointments for the meds were on the 9th Jan!!!! These cost £105 for adults and £50 per child.

Total cost for 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 8 & 5) is £451 plus the cost of sending the results to Sydney. The surgery said they would post them for an additional £12, but is it more reliable to send them by courier?
