Medical records
Hi......Is it necesary to take your medical/doctors records with you when you go? None of us have anything really wrong with us, kids have all had their baby immunisations & hubby has asthma/eczema.
Would be grateful for your advice/comments

Re: Medical records
Do you mean when you go to the Medicals? or when you go to the land downunder...
If its to the medicals then they only want to know about current treatment you're undertaking. Or if youve got something very significant in recent past that you're worried about then it might be worht taking a letter from your doctor explaining waht that thing was and what future consuquences it may bring.

You could do a search on the forums cos this has been asked before.
I think the advice then from people already in Aus was that the doctors aren't really interested in your printed medical history. Because under Medicare you can see any doctor you want, your records are not kept in one pratice like they are in the UK.
If you really want to take your records then you can get copies from your GP, however judging by past comments you will have difficulty getting them and the practice will want to charge you a fortune for making copies.
The jury is still out on whether we are entitled to have our own medical records free of charge....the arguments still go on.
You can ask for a printout of your records which the practice usually will do without a problem, but there will be a charge for this. The printout just gives you dates and treatments etc and depending on your history usually runs to 1 or 2 A4 sheets.
Hope this helps
