Default Medical and dental records

Hi all

I have read somewhere previously on these pages about asking your doctor and dentist for your records when moving UK to AU.
Is this correct? Or did this used to be the case perhaps but no longer?
Any help appreciated. Thanks

I wouldnt bother unless you have something complex in your medical history and I wouldnt bother at all with dental records, the dentist can see what has happened in your mouth. If you've had multiple interventions or have some well researched condition resulting in an idiosyncratic medication I wouldnt even bother with medical records. Of course, if you have kids, their vaccination records are important for school entry but that is about it.

As Quoll says, its a personal decision and always has been. You don’t need the records to see a GP here, and you can see a different GP every t8me if you like, not like registering with one in the UK. I would recommend taking children’s records for vaccinationsetc though.
they can ask you to pay a nominal fee for the records, as they have to be copied or printed for you, but you are entitled to have a copy, under Data Protection laws.

We brought our medical (but not dental) records but there really is no need unless you have a specific health issue that you need to have continued treatment for

Yeah the interesting thing going back is that there are no central medical records to ask for, and even trying to get the records of the operations on my eyes from one of the big hospitals here was like trying to access the crown jewels!
My records from the UK are still in there envelope, 20 years on, no one has ever been interested in any of the information in them.

Dental records have a very short shelf life, no more than two years, tops, and can effectively be recreated at whim with a full dental X-ray anyway, so don't bother with those.

Fab. Thanks very much for your replies. Kids are out of school so I think no records to ask for!
