-Victoria St Richmond
Northern suburbs (Coburg precinct):
-Sydney Road (whole 5km stretch)
-Preston market and Adjacent High St
?
Eastern suburbs (Blackburn precinct):
?
Western suburbs(Footscray precinct):
?
Southern suburbs(Cheltenham, Frankston precinct):
?
South Eastern suburbs:
-Dandenong market
-Clayton market (near to railway station)
?
South Western suburbs(Werribee precinct):
?
North Eastern suburbs(Croydon precinct):
?
North Western suburbs(St Albans precinct):
?
Couldn't find a list on the net. Thought of collating a list with the help of residents.

Great shops along Sydney Rd, I dont know them all and I've lived here for all my time in Australia. Dont forget the shops of off Sydney Rd as well.
Went to a new place (for me) the other day, which I highly recommend, especially for people that frequent Meditteranean Wholesalers. BAS Foods in Victoria St, Brunswick, similar to Meditteranean Wholesalers, except Middle Eastern based. It really was a treat, very large place, plenty of things I've never seen before. Highly recommended. I Went there to get some Gozleme, similar to Pizza for a BBQ and was amazed at the amazing array of foods. Far cheaper than Meditteranenan Wholesalers for the same products as well.
Food and varying choices is this areas NO1 selling point.
Heres a Link.

Preston Market is well worth a Visit as well, as is the Adjacent High St, which is now probably the best "Suburban" Chinese strip in Melbourne.

Prahran Market...I don't know which of your areas it fits into but...$$$$$.
South Melbourne market, also pricey.
Often times these places are more expensive than Coles / Woolies...as are many of the local fruit n veg shops, not always for better quality (looking) stuff.
I haven't been to Preston market but I often hear it mentioned as the place to go.

Victoria Street in Richmond is great for Vietnamese/Chinese groceries and fresh fish and meat. Prices are similar if not lower than the Vic Market and the quality is pretty good.

Thanks. Keep on pouring your thoughts and I'm updating the list, hope we cover all parts of Melbourne listed above. This list is not only for me but will all Melburnians who haven't explored their own 'biggest city in the Southern Hemisphere'

To be honest and it's a sad indictment, but as far as I'm concerned, the best and cheapest place to get reliably good fruit and Veg is Aldis.
My own personal Butchers (Vietnamese) and Greengrocers Vinnies in Sydney Rd Coburg are yet to be bettered by anywhere I travel..... Vinnies is probably on a Par pricewise with Aldis, but it's more effort to go to the independent greengrocers..
Ohh... there is another major place worth a Visit. Assembly Drive Tullamarine. Major Outlets for all foods... Butchers, Bakers, Greengrocers, Cakes, Middle Eastern... plus others, Neighbours from here travel the 8k's there all the time, plus plenty of other people in the Northern Suburb. I've not been there before because I compare them to my two local choices and the price differential for me isnt worth the trip. I know people who prefer Assembly Drive to Costco. Definitely worth a visit on recommendation from plenty of others that I know.

Re Preston Market... personal tip, Friday or Saturday lunch time, if you can handle the crowds, then walk the very short distance to High St, just through the back of the shops and try out one of the many Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants that are full of SE Asian diners.

The uncle out from Scotland nearly fell over
Mind you I go to the farmers market here, usually when it rains, so its fill a bag for a tenner, it used to be fill a bag for a fiver, so I am possibly a bit cheap

Dont recall ever seeing that kind of thing in Melbourne.
Maybe I'm not going at the right time, or they just dont do it here ?On a side note, living where I live you get a whole heap of different peoples from cultural backgrounds mixing. The most amusing thing I've seen amongst all of this is Vietnamese Butchers v Fussy Pensioner Italians. Now the Butcher does real good meat cheap... but that generally isnt good enough for your every day picky Italian oldy.... I think the Vietnamese must have lost what little humour and patience they had with these types. I've witnessed heaps of times an Italian saying I want that chop, from the front and that one 3 back on the right and that one at the back. The Vietnamese butchers take absoultely no notice of erm....(unlike the Aussie or Italian butchers who cater to these pedantic oldies every whim for what seems an eterntiy whilst you wait behind them) Nope... the good old Vietnamese just grab a hand full chuck erm in the bag wrap erm up.... all the time These old Italians are whinging their heads off. The cuteish Vietnamese butcher serving girls go, '5 dollar or get out' .... LOL !! I've never seen an Italian go without paying yet...
Vietnamese 1 Italians 0 and very funny to witness.

Where do you live Papilon ? It's just that I never get to the markets on the other side of town, which is the reason I'm asking.
Footscray market I enjoy, because it reminds me a lot of London.
