Re: Mad hubby and TRA
Thanks for all your replies - the one about getting a new husband was the best but their job would have on be on the MODL list !
I have already got out of him exactly what he does etc and have typed up a two page template. His attitude is that they'll all be the same and the TRA will know. Well, imho, if he's done the same job but for different employers then they will be the same! Hubby also said that if they wanted more info the TRA could ring the employers !! Get a grip - even Judge Judy doesn't do that.
Will close my eyes and count to a billion and then attempt again. I have offered to type them myself if he gets hold of some letterhead but perhaps I should push this avenue.
The best one was the statement which contained details of the only training he's ever received as a brickie and it said '..was trained as a bricklayer by myself'. Surely that's good enough !! PMSL
If I didn't want to go to Oz so much and am dependant on hubby to get me there, I'd find this funny

If you're applying, say, as a plumber I'm sure they dont want a reference from that part time job you did in Macdonalds in your early 20s...
Plus our agent told us to keep all job info relevant for the trade you're applying under, e.g. Malc applyng as metal machinist and was told not to include details of the C&G course he's currently doing for electrical installation as it makes it look like you're not specialised.

I will ask hubby if he wants to mail but I suspect I know the answer already apparently he already knows it all because a mate of a mate of a mate's cousin got in and didn't have to get his skills assessed at all - just took one look at him and knew he was a brickie !

Re: Mad hubby and TRA
I had a very similar experience with my hubby, I take full praise for his TRA application now.
I nagged, begged, showed etc. he did what he thought was best, then we got a letter back fromt he agent saying something like, based on the information submitted he did not feel that we would get the TRA passed. This did the trick as far as cooperation was concerned, however, I still had to do EVERY THING for it. I now know my hubbies CV off the top of my head and feel I did the City and Guilds in Carpentry!!!!!!!
How much does he want to come to Oz? Show him the threads about TRA, say your do the references he just needs to ask his previous employers if they will sign them.
They all have a mate who didn't have to do this and that, just like the £10 POMS, but thats not the case now. Stay with it I did and we've been here since the end of Dec '04.
GOOD LUCK
Tracey

Re: Mad hubby and TRA
[QUOTE=ohippy]Anyone got any ideas on how to deal with a husband who thinks he knows better than our agent.
hello! my husband is also a bricklayer and it was a nightmare! taking ages to get the references from past employers as they realy do need to say specific things. u could try writing a list of exactly what u need them to write in the references and giving them to the employers.also DO NOT send original copies with TRA application as they are needed for visa application. this is what my husband did!holding everything up for months! bless him, simple mistake.TRA eventually and very kindly returned them to us! we havnt got much of an idea about how much work is going on in what areas, weve not found much advertised, hubby says u just turn up on site and ask for work. anyway where are u heading?

Hi Ohippy, we emailed a copy of my other halfs work letters and he ok'd them. How about you doing the same and letting the agents answer (as I think we know what they will say) be the wake up call for your hubby. If they are the ones to actually turn down one he has aquired. At the moment he obviously thinks that he know best, but once someone actually commits to paper that what you are doing is rubbish, he might respond (favourably I hope).
