As soon as visa's come through - which could be any minute now (god I hope so!!!) we'll be moving to Mackay (it's in between Brisbane and Cairns). Sister lives there and she and hubby (he's a aussie) are sponsoring us! When do you go?

What's your line of work?

There is quite a lot of construction work there at present. I would describe it as a reasonable size city. Lot smaller than Brisbane but good size for family life etc. Summer time is very hot & humid, winter is mild. Not really great if you do outside work in the summer :scared:

Hi there
This is my first attempt at this!
We have been in Mackay since June last year. We have just survived our first summer here, thanks to air con and a pool in the garden! Height of summer very hot and humid, 'winter' like the best English summer days - really nice.
Although not very big, Mackay has everything you need, plenty of good beaches, cinemas, shops etc.
Kids ( boy 6 and girl nearly 4) thriving. Both swim like fish and love outdoor lifestyle.
Need to go to bed now, will log on again when I'm more awake!
Good point about Mackay - we are only 2 hours' drive from the Whitsunday Islands- beautiful! Brisbane is only a 90 minute flight away.

We have been herre since Nov last year. The heat is one thing but the humidity in Summer is a killer. It is pleasant now and will stay this way but gets down to 8 deg C. It is at 28 deg C. Aircon is a must.
Its even hot and humid compared to Durban South Africa,
About 90000, mines are where the big money is at. It is the biggest sugar terminal in the world and one of the biggest coal shipping terminals. Sea with no surf, but stingers in Summer. ( Jelly fish that can make you need hospital attention. For the cooler Eungela rain forest is close by 75 km.
Airlie beach where ferry to the island leaves is a pretty place.
Havent been to the island yet.
