Smile luggage

Hi there
Has anybody travelled recently with quantas from heathrow to sydney.
I was wandering what they charge for extra suitcases as we arnt taking any furniture with us from uk, so may have 2 or 3 suitcases each with our worldly belongings in them.
Thanks for your help

You will be stung A$875 for 1 extra 25kg bag!

So about £550 in local currency.

Not a good option!

If you take them to Heathrow there is an office there for the Excess Baggage Co. They're much cheaper than payine extra with Qantas.

Yes. Twice. Got slammed the first time and pre-booked excess the second time.

I recommend British Airways for that particular journey if there's excess baggage involved.

BA's prices on excess are much more competitive.

Yup, that second bag that Qantas want £550 for would be £32 on BA.

Subsequent bags would be £72 and you can take 11 each in total.

Qantas stung me for several hundred dollars NRT - SYD when my *cabin* bag was just a couple of Kg overweight!

My latest trip was 5 suitcases on BA 4 of which were excess. Pre-booked and paid a total of 248 GBP. Far cheaper than sending it on a boat.

When I last did the Qantas LHR - SYD in October, aware of the excess policy, I hid my hand luggage at check in which was full of books and photo albums and weighed 18KG.

But BA are sh*te to fly with!!!

I usually send my excess in advance with www.wedelivertheworld.co.uk - door to door Bristol-Brisbane takes three days and its much cheaper than airline prices.

I've found them to be almost the same as Qantas...two more similar airlines you couldn't hope to meet, IMO.

You can get great service, or lousy, snooty service...they both excel at both of these!

Got to beg to differ on that one - personally speaking! I've had sh*te service both on the ground and onboard with BA, whereas Qantas have been fab, I'd fly them as my first choice anyday. Maybe I've just been lucky as I know a lot of people won't touch them, but I swear by them, and their Frequent Flyer programme. BA on the other hand ............. Second only to Emirats in my book and thats pretty dreadful!

I have found complete opposite BA were great and Qantas were S**t. I would never choose to fly Qantas again due to the experience we had. Saying that Singapore airlines is No1! Sorry I can not help with the luggage thing though!
